MY 2017 GOALS | TARA BERRIES


I have always been a goals oriented person and I love the new year because it gives you reason to reflect on the year that has past and to think of the future year ahead. Upon reflecting on 2016 I realized that it is time to get serious and to create more specific goals to get further ahead in planning for my future. I have divided up my goals into four categories: financial, health, blog, and personal.

Financial Goal: To save my money.
I have never created a financial goal before and I have to say I am not the best at saving money. Last year I opened up a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) and put all my savings into that account but I have dipped into my savings since then so it went down quite a bit. I realized that the only way I can force myself to save is to create automatic monthly transfers from my chequing account to my TFSA so that it is like a bill payment. I have to account for this transfer monthly so that I don't end up spending it all and have nothing left to put into my account (which was happening too frequently). I went into the bank a few days ago and raised my automatic transfers and I made an appointment to discuss investing into a mutual fund. I would also like to save some money to put towards a Registered Retirement Savings Plan as I haven't yet begun to save for my retirement (which won't be occurring for a very long time).

Health Goal: Exercise 5 days a week.
The more I research on health and fitness the more I read that 30 minute workouts 5 days a week is the perfect amount to make a good fitness routine. This seems doable right? I have started the Fit Girls Guide 28 Day Jumpstart and have been working out everyday for 30 minutes and I think this is something I can stick with. Blog Goals: Blog on average once a week.
Over the summer of 2016 I had plenty of time to attend to my blog and write posts and publish them. When September came along I became much busier and it became harder to stick to a schedule. I want to try to publish a blog post once a week which would keep my traffic up and would give readers a sense of regularity to my blog.

Personal Goal: Read 30 books this year.
I make a reading goal every year and for the past few years I haven't reached my goal (probably set too high at 50 books a year). With 2016 being my worst reading year yet, I really want to read more in 2017. Especially when friends look to me to give them book recommendations. Those are my goals for 2017 and I think they are each attainable goals. I just have to keep at it each day and focus on the end result: to be a more well rounded person at the end of 2017.
